Calderona 2011Cigales DO. Ruby pink, clean and bright. Cherry, strawberry, raspberry with a floral touch of rose petal and violets. Fresh, sweet with fair acidity, strawberry candy, cotton candy, nice and long aftertaste. Serve between 6-8ºC.

Fino La Panesa, Bodegas Emilio HidalgoMade from 100% Palomino, this sherry has been aged under flor for an average of 15 years, giving it complexity and a real depth of flavors. It's nutty, rich and absolutely delicious. Serve with fried fish, salty almonds or a plate of cured meat. Volume750 ml La Panesa is called Especial Fino on the label. It is indeed quite special: it’s probably the oldest Fino on the market (this also means it comes at a fairly heavy price). It is produced by Bodegas Emilio Hildago in Jerez de la Frontera. The solera that holds La Panesa was laid down in 1961 to celebrate the birth of Alfonso Rodriguez, the first nephew of the Hidalgo brothers. It’s a very selective solera: only the best barrels from Hidalgo’s basic Fino solera are taken out and are then fed into the seven special criaderas that make Fino Panesa. This wine is almost 15 years old on average and most wines would have turned into Amontillado by that time. It takes a lot of temperature and humidity monitoring to keep the flor alive for such an extensive period. In fact Hidalgo says they can only make this happen in the most humid parts of the bodega. Gran Feudo Chivite 2011Navarra DO. Grenache Noir. This high quality rosé has become a Spanish classic over the years. It’s dry, full-bodied but packed with plenty of crushed red berry fruit. This is summer wine personified, match up with barbecue chicken/fish or lamb kebabs.

Callejuela La Casilla Amontillado 50 mlMahogany color. High intensity nose with aromas of vanilla, some hydrocarbons, toasted caramel, and scrubland. Very concentrated mouth. Very salty and very long aftertaste.
A very powerful nose of alcoholic caramel and vanilla and maybe some marmalade, baked citrus in the background. On the palate there is pronounced salinity, real power and zing. For such a lightly coloured wine there is more astringency than expected too, then woodiness to it, including in the long finish – maybe notes of vanilla caramel but very very dry – almost dusty dry. Tombú 2011 Dominio dos TaresVT Castilla y León IGP. Unique rosé from Dominio Dos Tares. made with Prieto Picudo grapes. Explosive almost yeasty aromatics, but a deep and complex palate with great length and a unique deliciousness.

Chivite 2006 Coleccion 125Navarra DO. Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. A totally different and unusual pink: fermented and aged in oak barrels. A blend of five varieties fermented and aged in oak and a long stay in the bottle that is surprising, for his coolness and his thin nose. It is a unique wine which is produced very few bottles. Tasting notes: • Vista Pinkish color. Vivid and bright. • Nose Red fruit aromas with notes of anise, and exotic flower withers (sandalwood and incense). • Mouth Fat and bulky, with good acidity and memories of cherries and nuts.

Muga 2011Rioja DOCa. Garnacha, tempranillo and viura. Bronze-pink in hue. Delicate strawberry, mineral and blackcurrant feature on the nose. On the palate, it offers refreshment like weak strawberry and raspberry cordial (chilled of course). Some pink lady apple in there too. There’s just the faintest bit of tannin around the sides, playfully skipping around with minerality and cranberry acidity. It’s dry and pale, as most Rosé should be.

Callejuela El Cerro Oloroso 50 mlAmber colour, intense nose with aromas of orange, spices and wood. Long and wide mouth.
El Cerro is the Oloroso in a series of four wines that was released by the small bodega Callejuela in 2015. The Blanco brothers started making wine in 1980 and they are bottling it under their name since 2015. With this series, they immediately attracted attention among sherry lovers. El Cerro is said to be just over 20 years of age. The grapes for this wine are coming from the owners’ own vineyards which surround the bodega and for the winemaking the owners are assisted by Ramiro Ibáñez. It is bottled en rama, with minimal filtering. In January 2016, El Mundo Vino – the wine chapter of Spanish newspaper El Mundo – selected its ‘wines of the year’ and awarded El Cerro in the category of sweet / sparkling / fortified wines.
