Dermo Suavina lip balm was first produced in Spain in 1880, by a local pharmacist for the treatment of the dry and cracked lips of orange pickers. News soon spread and the ointment became famous! Suavina’s iconic image has changed very little over the years. It is still produced in Castellon five generations later.
Suavina is made from 100% natural essential oils, and is free from preservatives and emulsifiers.

What distinguishes the Suavina from other balsams is its texture, nothing pasty, and the sensation of freshness that menthol brings, which is first combined with a mixture of essential oils and melts with a fatty medium. All this process still happens in the rebound of the Calduch pharmacy in Castellón, with two people who are responsible for packaging each jar by hand - they produce about 200,000 a year - and under the supervision of two Vicente Calduch, great-grandson and great-great grandson of the first Calduch who created the formula that, of course, they do not reveal.
Suavina is a lip protector with a lot of history behind it, ‘135 years taking care of your lips’, as their vaseline put it. The design reflects classic product imagery, following the main brief requirement. The packaging design of the lip cream container is a redesign, an updated version of the container they have been using for many years. The surface has been curved and the edges have been rounded to bring the smoothness effect that this type of product requires. The lid shows the brand, which was redesigned from the original brand. It also includes the word ‘demo’, and the date of the foundation of the brand: 1880. The design solution itself seeks to convey both tradition and modernity through elements such as classic typographic composition, sans serif fonts, and debossed letters.
