This throw is called "Zamora" as these are traditionally the colors from the Zamora area (south of León), this array of colors can be traced back to the XI century. This is a traditional woven "Maragata Blanket" made with pure virgin sheep wool by very skillful weavers, the attention to detail is unmatched, and even the fringe is hand-twisted individually.
This sofa or travel blanket is made with 100% virgin sheep wool, all processed in one place and by one family making this a truly sustainable and local product. The wool is 100% pure sheep, and the manufacturing processes create a light fabric that retains heat, while being perfectly breathable.
Cleaning and care: Washing machine (wool programme) and neutral or special detergent for wool, avoiding spin.

Textile craft in Val de San Lorenzo, León (Spain) goes back to the XVII century when you could find up to 80 textile artisans in this village until the XIX century when there was a deep textile crisis in Spain. The maragato crafters had to mechanize their production to be able to compete with the rest of the world. By 1858, maragato blankets were among the most appreciated blankets in Europe and these tiny village weavers still use the traditional wool combing technique they used back then known as “hollow-fiber”, which means that in the fiber there is trapped air that offers natural insulation resulting in extremely warm blankets.
Zamora was a transit point on the wool route from Extremadura to Valladolid. It became a strategic enclave where an important textile industry specialized in wool with centuries of tradition would be born: the production of artisanal blankets from Zamora. It has its origin in the repopulation of Zamora with people from various places after the Arab incursions. Among them stands out a large group of people from Palencia who settled in the northwestern suburb, outside the walls of the first walled enclosure of the city, organizing the wool spinning and weaving industry. This caused, some time later, a great development of the area that today is still identified as the La Lana (wool) neighborhood. |
