María Ángeles Falagán is the successor to the family business that her father founded in the 1950s and she has led it individually since 2000. Mariángeles still remembers when he was leaving school at the age of 10, when his mother made a sound blowing with a key. At that moment she had to abandon the game with her friends and go make bobbins for the loom.

From the Val de San Lorenzo in León, the third generation of the same family makes wool blankets in an absolutely artisanal way. The well-known “Mantas Maragatas del Val", due to their excellent quality, have always enjoyed an important reputation among merchants and travelers.

The wool of the Maragata blankets is 100% pure sheep, and through a natural and manual manufacturing process a light fabric is achieved that preserves heat, while being perfectly breathable, since the fibers of the sheep's wool are hollow and act as an air chamber.

A manufacturing that, in the words of Mariángeles and Gaspar, her husband, is destined to disappear if measures are not taken. The artisan tells us about the decline of this textile craft: “in the 18th century there were more than eighty workshops in the Val. Today the Maragato blankets and covers so recognized by the social elite for centuries are barely recognized.”
